Leadership: Are Functions represented on project senior leadership teams?
Leadership teams need to include those who will manage the change and those who will be subject to the change
Whilst the study inevitably had a bias towards actuarial and accounting, we were surprised how little other functions were involved.
The stand-out feature of this result is how focussed and siloed it is. Whilst we benchmarked a finance change, HR, Legal, Procurement and Tech these essential stakeholders are hardly involved. These are big change projects, yet only half of them have involved senior change professionals.
We know that some respondents working at the same insurer gave different answers. Our conclusion is that the structure of SLTs and the associated decision-making (read governance) procedures are not clear to everyone participating in implementation projects.
An implementation project will only be successful if its senior leadership team a range of people with required expertise and experience to deliver the change.
